Hector Rondon (5-4) got the first two outs of the ninth before walking Erik Kratz. Asche followed in the pitcher’s spot and drove the first pitch into the foul pole in right field to help Philadelphia win for just the fifth time in the last 19 games.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jeff Locke pitched one-run ball into the seventh inning and Michael Morse hit a pinch-hit grand slam as the Pittsburgh Pirates tightened up the National League Central race with a 10-2 rout of the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night. The Pirates drew within 2 1/2 games of first-place St. Louis, the closest Pittsburgh has been since it was two games back at the All-Star break after winning three in a row at home against the Cardinals.

True freshmen Brandon Polk and Saquon Barkley each ran for touchdowns for Penn State Christian Hackenberg completed 14 of 27 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown and Joey Julius kicked a pair of field goals.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Qadree Ollison rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on Saturday night, powering Pittsburgh to a 24-7 victory over Akron. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound freshman logged 21 carries despite leaving the field twice with minor left leg injuries. Nate Peterman added an 18-yard scoring pass to J.P. Holtz as the Panthers (2-0) held off the Zips (0-2) at waterlogged InfoCision Stadium. A soaking rain began two hours before kickoff and continued the entire game.
HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Vad Lee threw for 334 yards and a touchdown to lead James Madison past Lehigh 55-17 yesterday. For the second-straight week, the Dukes had more than 600 yards of offense. Lee completed a 13-yard pass to Cardon Johnson for a 7-0 lead.
