PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Michael Carter-Williams hit a running layup with 9.2 seconds left to lift the Philadelphia 76ers to a 93-92 victory over the Indiana Pacers last night. David West tallied 28 points for the Pacers but came up short on a 13-footer at the buzzer that would’ve won it for Indiana. West had put the Pacers in front with a fadeaway 12-footer with 17.6 seconds left. But Carter-Williams sent Philadelphia to the win with his layup eight seconds later.NHL: Pittsburgh at Montreal, 7 p.m.
MONTREAL (AP) — Sidney Crosby scored a power-play goal 3:41 into overtime, lifting the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 last night. Evgeni Malkin also scored for the Penguins, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Rookie David Pastrnak scored his first two career NHL goals to lead the Boston Bruins to a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Claude Giroux scored for Philadelphia, which fell further out of the Eastern Conference playoff race. Jakub Voracek, who entered leading the NHL with 49 points, assisted Giroux’s goal.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Hall of Famer Dick LeBeau has resigned as the defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 77-year-old LeBeau had been with the organization for 16 seasons. He was also the team’s secondary coach for part of that time. Linebackers coach Keith Butler is the most likely candidate to replace LeBeau.
VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) — Darrun Hilliard scored 21 points and eighth-ranked Villanova improved to 15-1 by drubbing DePaul 81-64. The Wildcats shot 53.6 percent from the field and 44.8 percent from 3-point range. They made a season-high 13 3-pointers on 29 attempts, with Hilliard and Ryan Arcidiacono leading the way with four apiece.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Melvin Johnson scored 20 points and No. 20 VCU extended its winning streak to eight games with an 89-74 victory over Saint Joseph’s. Treveon Graham added 19 points for the Rams, who made Shaka Smart just the seventh coach in Division I history to win 150 games in his first six seasons. The loss was the Hawks’ fourth in a row.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jaron Blossomgame scored 18 points to lead Clemson past Pittsburgh 71-62. The Tigers out-rebounded Pitt 39-22 and held the Panthers to 39 percent shooting while converting on 47.1 percent of their field goal attempts.
PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — Blake Dietrick scored 25, including the 1000th of her career, to help No. 22 Princeton stay unbeaten with an 83-54 win over Penn. The Tigers are one of three undefeated teams left in the country after No. 3 Texas lost at Iowa State earlier in the day. The others are No. 1 South Carolina and No. 14 Mississippi State.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Kahleah Copper scored 23 points on 9-of-21 shooting as No. 24 Rutgers used a big second half to pull away from Penn State 71-51. Lindsey Spann led Penn State with 18 points but had 11 turnovers.
