DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Department of Public Health says flu activity is on the rise in Iowa. Three flu viruses are active in the state, including two types of influenza A and an influenza B strain, all of which are covered by this year’s flu shots.
The state health department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the shot is the best protection, especially since flu season normally peaks during January and February.
Iowa’s health department medical director Patricia Quinlisk says it’s still not too late to receive the vaccination.
She says even those who have had the flu already could become ill with one of the other strains circulating. She says vaccination will protect against getting influenza a second or even third time this year.
