25 taken to hospitals after school buses crash in Silver Spring

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Police say 25 students were taken to hospitals for evaluation as a precaution after two school buses crashed Wednesday afternoon in Silver Spring Township.

The buses were transporting students from Northern York Middle School when one of the buses rear-ended the other on Route 114 at Old Willow Mill Road at around 12:20 p.m.

No students were seriously injured.

Nine students transported to UPMC Pinnacle West Shore were treated and released, and others taken to hospitals in Harrisburg and Carlisle were expected to be released after evaluation.

A school district spokesperson said 96 students were on the buses for a field trip to Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School. All parents of those students have been notified.

Students involved in the accident, but not injured, returned to Northern Middle School and were dismissed at their normal time.

The buses are owned and operated by Rohrer Bus Company.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
