Woman dies in fall from Susquehanna River bridge

AIRVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A woman died after she jumped from a bridge over the Susquehanna River, the coroner said.

York County Coroner Pam Gay said the woman fell from the Norman Wood Bridge to the shoreline in Lower Chanceford Township shortly before noon.

The death has been ruled a suicide.

Gay said witnesses saw the woman walking on a catwalk before she fell about 15-20 feet to a sandy area below. She got back up and told the witnesses she was okay, but then returned to the catwalk and jumped about 100-120 feet to the rocks below the bridge pillars.

She died at the scene. Her name will not be released.
