Driver charged in hit-and-run death of trash collector

WILLOW STREET, Pa. (WHTM) – Police in Lancaster County say they’ve identified a driver who struck and killed a garbage truck worker then left the scene.

Leon E. Anderson, 23, of Manheim Township, was arrested Friday on a second-degree felony charge of accidents involving death or personal injury, West Lampeter Township police said.

The worker, 24-year-old Vince Nalencz of Media, was working for Eagle Disposal of East Earl when he was struck Nov. 21. in the 2500 block of Willow Street Pike North. He died a short time later at a hospital.

Anderson was placed in the Lancaster County Prison on $500,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 30.
