Man accused of putting bleach in pregnant girlfriend’s water faces new charge

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A 20-year-old man who confessed to putting bleach in his pregnant girlfriend’s water is heading to court on an additional charge of attempted murder.

Judge Joshua Keller also ordered that Theophilous Washington, 20, be tried on counts of attempted murder of an unborn child and reckless endangerment.

Washington, who is in Lancaster County Prison on $1 million bail, waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday.

According to authorities, Washinton was a Millersville University student when he gave his girlfriend water containing bleach while she was two months pregnant.

Following the October 28 incident, Washington told police that he committed the act because he did not want his girlfriend to give birth to his child.

The woman reported the incident to police after she drank the water and felt a burning sensation in her throat. A doctor examined her and the unborn baby. Both were reportedly physically unharmed.
