Man sentenced after pleading guilty to assaulting police officers

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A New Jersey man will serve up to ten years in state prison after pleading guilty to assaulting two Susquehanna Township police officers.

Malik Jones, a 32-year-old resident of East Orange, New Jersey, was sentenced Tuesday to a minimum of three and a half years in prison.

Jones was charged after a Jan. 7 incident in which police were called to the Days Inn on Front Street for prostitution activity. When officers tried to arrest him, Jones assaulted them and tried to flee.

A handgun was located, along with drug paraphernalia and cocaine.

Jones pleaded guilty to assaulting the officers, being a felon in possession of a firearm and felony cocaine possession.
