HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – A former police chief has been charged with stealing gambling tickets from a central Pennsylvania social club.
Pennlive.com says Harrisburg police have charged 67-year-old Howard Dougherty with stealing the tickets from the Der Harrisburg Maennerchor social club in May.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for Dougherty, who was previously the chief of the West Shore Regional Police Department, as well as a former borough manager in Lemoyne and former president of the West Shore School Board.
Police say Dougherty was president of the social club when the tickets were stolen.
Police say club members suspected someone was stealing the tickets and installed a camera in a closet where the tickets were stored. Police say the camera recorded Dougherty taking two large handfuls containing about 180 tickets.
