MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM)- An Upper Allen Township Police Officer was conducting a traffic stop when his marked patrol vehicle was struck on Friday.

The Citizens Hose Company #1 ambulance was transporting a patient from Dillsburg to a local hospital when it hit the patrol vehicle on US Route 15 north in the area of W. Lisburn Road.

Police say the patrol vehicle received disabling damage and the officer was struck by flying debris from the crash but was not injured. The ambulance had minor damage and the patient was transferred to another ambulance. The crash remains under investigation at this time.

The Upper Allen Township Police would like to remind the public that when approaching or passing an emergency response area a driver must not pass in a lane next to an emergency response area. If it is impossible, illegal or unsafe they must pass carefully and at reduced speed which is reasonable to safely pass the emergency response area.
