Demolition is part of restoration in Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Just a few months ago, a house sat on what is now an empty lot in Gettysburg.

Bringing down a building in the name of history is how part of the battlefield is being restored.

The goal of returning the property to its battle-era appearance is now partially accomplished.

“It’s a long process protecting and preserving national park grounds,” Katie Lawhon, spokesperson for Gettysburg National Military Park, said.

One the project is complete, demolitions and all, visitors will be able to take a walk through history right on the battlefield.
