Part of I-81 closed in Franklin County after tractor-trailer overturns, catches fire

UPDATE: I-81 South reopened after fatal truck crash in Franklin County

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Part of Interstate 81 is closed in Franklin County due to an overturned tractor-trailer that caught fire.

According to a 911 dispatcher, the incident in the southbound lanes between the Scotland and Walker Road exits has closed all lanes. The roadway is expected to be closed for hours.

The incident was first reported around 6 p.m.

According to fire officials at the scene, investigators are working to determine if there was another vehicle involved.

The truck was carrying a flammable liquid. At this time, authorities are unsure of what the substance was.

The nearby public is not in any danger because of the substance.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
