Artists aim to give stories from Gettysburg battlefield new life

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A couple staying at Gettysburg National Military Park is using the battlefield as inspiration.

Michela and George Ferree will make a month of it.

She’s a songwriter from Ohio. He’s a photographer originally from Alaska.

They are the national park’s newest artists in residence.

Now through the middle of December, they’ll try to give stories from the battlefield new life.

For George, the battle is finding new ways to capture the spirit of a place photographed millions of times before. As an artist in residence, he’ll focus on nighttime photos and time lapse videos.

“Not necessarily completely new, radical composures, but new ways to capture the emotion of the park,” George said. “That’s a big aspect of this park is the emotion. The feeling you get when you’re here.”

Michela will present a free concert of her songs on Dec. 10 from 1-2 p.m. at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitors Center.
