MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – Pennsylvania Turnpike officials are predicting records.
Carl DeFebo, a Turnpike spokesman, said he expects around 3.5 million drivers to use the toll highway Tuesday through Saturday.
“People are looking for effective, efficient travel,” he told ABC27 News.
DeFebo suggested two apps for drivers. The apps he said work best are TripTalk and Waze. He said both provide real-time traffic updates and both can be used hands-free.
“Our app reads audio advisories so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road or your hands off the wheel,” he said. “Once you launch the app you basically just have to listen.”
For those flying during the Thanksgiving holiday, it should be noted that most airlines provide their own app. Some of the airline apps will also save you money.
Scott Miller, a spokesman for Harrisburg International Airport, said the apps can hold a lot of information.
“You enter your itinerary and then you can check in online through the app,” he said. “You can pay for your bags through the app. You can track your bags with some airlines, like Delta, with the app. You have your boarding passes. Everything you need is right there on your phone.”
Travel experts also suggest the MyTSA app from the Transportation Security Administration. MyTSA can give a terminal-by-terminal look at wait times and lets users examine what is and is not allowed in carry-on luggage.
The GasBuddy app gives you a list of gas stations in your area along with the current price.
