GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Hollywood actor LeVar Burton drew comparisons with the past and present as the guest speaker at Saturday’s Gettysburg Dedication Day ceremonies.

Well known for his appearances on Roots, Reading Rainbow, and a Star Trek series, Burton appeared in Adams County to mark the 153rd anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

Burton told several thousand attendees that today’s political climate is not unlike the political climate of 15 decades ago when President Lincoln spoke of all men being created equal.

The ceremony included a Lincoln reenactor reciting the Gettysburg Address and a naturalization ceremony for 17 men and women who became new American citizens.
