HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM)- If you’re looking for something festive to do this afternoon come celebrate downtown for Harrisburg’s 2016 Holiday Parade.
The event starts at 12 p.m. on at the Dr. MLK Jr. Government Center Plaza on 10 N. 2nd St. The Market Street Bridge will be closed this morning and North Front Street will close from Forster to Market at 10 a.m.
The two-mile parade route will be as follows:
• Market Street to Second Street
• Second Street to North Street
• North Street to Front Street
• Front Street to Market Street
• Market Street Bridge to City Island
The parade will include marching bands, musical acts, vintage and classic cars, and balloons. As well as costume characters from Cinderella, Star Wars, and The Nutcracker.
There will also be food trucks available on Market Street between Front and Second Streets.
After the parade join Santa for hot chocolate in Strawberry Square, followed by the awards ceremony. Trophies will be awarded to the top Dance, Step, and Drill Team Units and cash prizes will be given to the top High School Marching Bands.
If you decide to make an evening of the festivities- free parking is available at Market Square Parking garage from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Parade attendees can also use the Pango App and get up to 4 hours of free street parking using the “LUVHBG” code.
