HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) A record number of hunters are expected to hit the woods for firearms season for black bear.
Bear hunting has always been big in Pennsylvania but this year it could be even bigger.
“We know we have a record bear population this year. It’s increased from 18,000 to 20,000 animals since last year. A lower than expected harvest two years ago is the reason for that,” Pennsylvania Game Commission spokesman Travis Lau said.
Biologists say a 5,000 bear harvest isn’t out of the question. It would topple 2011’s record of just over 4300.
