Turnpike expects heavy Thanksgiving travel

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Nearly 3.5 million drivers are expected to travel the Pennsylvania Turnpike over the Thanksgiving holiday, and many of them will hit the road a day earlier this year.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission says the Tuesday before Thanksgiving is now one of the busiest travel days, especially between 3-8 p.m.

The commission anticipates heavy traffic again the Sunday after Thanksgiving, particularly from noon until 8 p.m.

Construction and maintenance work that affects travel lanes will be suspended, except for emergencies, from 5 a.m. the Tuesday before the holiday until 11 p.m. the following Sunday.
