Local high school bands score big

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (WHTM) – High school bands from four local school districts performed well at the USBands National Championships in East Rutherford, New Jersey this past weekend.

In Group 2 competition, Susquehanna Township finished second out of 12 bands. The school was also honored with the Best Overall Effect Award.

Northern York High School finished seventh in Group 4 competition. There were 16 bands in the division.

And in Group 5, the Mechanicsburg High School band came in second out of 11 bands and also claimed the prize for the best overall effect. The band from the West Shore School District followed in fourth place.

A West Shore spokesman said the band improved over its performance last year when it finished sixth.
