CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A Carlisle treasure is selling all of its little treasures to the public. The old Hotel Carlisle, which has been closed for more than a year, is hosting an auction to sell everything inside, outside, and even parts of the building.
The sign says “complete liquidation.”
The hotel, somewhat of an eyesore along the Harrisburg Pike today, was once a staple in the community. Ken Appell used to stay there for car shows.
“We really had some unique memories here,” he said. “One of my favorites is Ford Motor Company would debut some of their enthusiast products to the club members here at the hotel.”
Howard Hirsch, hired to auction off all the hotel’s contents, has his own memories.
“I’ve been coming here since I was at least 19 years old to their seafood buffets and their Sunday brunches with my family,” he said.
But now he’s focused on the massive job at hand.
“Everything in the place is being sold,” he said.
The auction next month includes thousands of little things you wouldn’t think of; booths, juice machines, microwaves, flowers. Then, there are the big things you didn’t think you needed.
“There’s the opportunity for the homeowner who would like to have a bar in their house, or there’s the opportunity for the person who has a bar in their restaurant and would like to upgrade,” Hirsch said.
The contents of all 300 rooms will be sold as a package. They’re auctioning off all the copper, aluminum and steel scraps; even windows, doors, and other parts of the building.
After that, Hirsch says a bulldozer comes. The current owner tells us they don’t know what’s next for the 32-acre lot.
But, the auction is an opportunity to get a slice of what’s now history.
“If the club members come over and I have something in the garage, I could say it’s actually from Hotel Carlisle where we used to stay,” Appell said, “just a cool story.”
You can walk through to see what’s being sold on Nov. 21 and Dec. 2. The auction is all day Dec. 5.
The contents in the auction are all listed on the auctioneer’s website: http://hirschrealestateauctions.com/.
