Giant/Martin’s removes certain Smart Ones frozen desserts

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – Giant Food Stores has removed from sale certain Smart Ones Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundaes because the frozen desserts may be contaminated with listeria.

The move follows a recall by Kraft Heinz Company. The company said the recall is for sundaes in a 4-pack, with a UPC of 25800023295 and “best if used by” dates of 12/28/2016 through 7/28/2017.

Giant has received no reports of illnesses to date.

Contaminated food can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease that can cause miscarriages and stillbirths as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

Customers should throw out any unused portions and take their receipt to Giant for a full refund.

Consumers looking for additional information on the recall may call Kraft Heinz at 1-866-572-3805.
