YORK, Pa. (AP) – A man already serving a sentence for murder goes on trial Monday in the shooting deaths of two brothers in central Pennsylvania last year.
Twenty-year-old Durell Cotton is charged in York County with two counts of first- and third-degree murder in the deaths of 19-year-old Abdiel Vasquez-Soto and 21-year-old Angel Berrios.
Prosecutors said the two were apparently leaving the scene of a shooting in June 2015 when their vehicle struck a telephone pole and they were found shot inside.
Cotton is already serving a term of 59½ years to life in prison in what authorities called the gang-related October 2013 killing of 21-year-old Jordan Breeland.
His original minimum term was 65 years but he was resentenced after officials said his criminal record was misstated in a pre-sentence investigation report.
