CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A scam artist tried to con a Carlisle resident out of $5,000 this week by posing as a detective who had arrested a family member, police said.

Carlisle police said the resident was told to buy $5,000 in gift cards and provide the card information to the caller as bail money.

The caller did not get any money from the resident.

Police said residents should be aware of such scams and not provide any money or identifying information to suspicious callers.
