HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A reported incident at the PSECU inside Strawberry Square apparently was a joke gone wrong.

Capitol police and Harrisburg police responded to a reported robbery attempt and arrested a woman Nov. 4.

Department of General Services spokesman Troy Thompson said the woman looked visibly shaken and confused. She told police her supervisor at the Department of Revenue, Gladys Smith, gave her a note and told her to take it to the credit union and bring back what they gave her.

The woman said she didn’t look at the handwritten note and had no idea it said “put the money in the bag.” She handed it to a teller, who called security.

Police questioned Smith, who admitted she wrote the note and intended it to be a joke. She could be charged with disorderly conduct, Thompson said.

A Revenue spokesperson said Gladys Smith is an administrative officer with the department and they cannot comment on personnel matters.
