Carlisle anesthesiologist avoids prison on drug charges

Gregory G. Theodore

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A Carlisle anesthesiologist who passed out on drugs between surgeries has avoided prison time.

Gregory G. Theodore, 62, was sentenced Tuesday in Cumberland County Court to four years of probation, according to court documents. He pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance.

Authorities said Theodore used a syringe to inject Demerol, a pain medication he used for surgeries. He was found unconscious in a staff locker room at Carlisle Regional Medical Center after he failed to show up for an operation in June.

During treatment in the emergency room, Theodore told a doctor he had been using Demerol for the past four years. Authorities said he did not have a prescription for the drug.
