EPHRATA, Pa. (WHTM) – Ephrata Police Department tweeted, “Sink Hole at West Pine Street and Park Ave. continues to grow.” Police have deemed the area unsafe and are evacuating residents again.

Police say the water pressure eroded the ground at Park Avenue and West Pine Street, collapsing the road by 6 a.m. A caller reported getting a flat tire and seeing ripples in the road about an hour earlier.

As a precautionary measure, police evacuated two nearby apartment buildings. There was a gas line in the area of the collapse, but the line did not rupture. Residents were allowed to return by 11:30 a.m.

Authorities said repairs would take two to three days.
