Shuster wins against tea party conservative who ran as Democrat

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A tea party conservative who lost the GOP primary to Bill Shuster has lost his latest attempt to unseat the incumbent congressman.

Shuster, who was elected to Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District in 2001, defeated Art Halverson in Tuesday’s general election for his ninth two-year term.

Shuster beat Halvorson in the primary by one percent. Halvorson, however, got 1,000 Democrats to write in his name and secured a position on the general election ballot.

The 9th congressional district in south central and southwestern Pennsylvania includes Franklin County.
