DENVER, Pa. (WHTM) – A man who claimed he had a run-in with a robber while cleaning a Lancaster County bank now believes it was only his reflection in a glass window.
But East Cocalico Township police aren’t calling it an honest mistake. They charged 58-year-old Douglas Lees with making false reports to law enforcement.
Lees, the nighttime cleaning man at the Ephrata National Bank in Denver, was working Sept. 4 when he called 911 to report a man with a gun was outside. He told police he ran into an office to make the call after the would-be robber pulled a black handgun from his waistband and demanded entrance.
Surveillance video didn’t show anyone outside the bank, and police said Lees ultimately admitted he probably saw his reflection and embellished the entire story.
