LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A Chester County man will serve up to five years in prison for fatally beating former McCaskey High School basketball standout Anthony C. Hunter Jr.

Andre M. Shelton Jr., 28, of Coatesville, was sentenced Monday in Lancaster County Court to 14 months to five years, according to District Attorney Craig Stedman’s office.

Shelton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of involuntary manslaughter last month.

Hunter was fatally beaten in December after he tried to rob Shelton during a marijuana buy at the Lancaster Green Apartments in Lancaster Township. Shelton took Hunter’s gun and repeatedly beat him over the head with it, authorities said.

An autopsy found Hunter died of multiple traumatic injuries to his brain, head and neck.

He was a basketball all-star before graduating from McCaskey in 2007.
