NAPLES, Pa – (WHTM) – A Purple Heart awarded to a World War 1 soldier is now back in the hands of his family.
Pfc Jacob Nailor was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he sustained fighting in France in 1918. He survived the war and was honorably discharged.
Nailor’s family apparently lost track of the medal. But the organization Purple Hearts Reunited found the medal on eBay and tracked down Nailor’s grandson. The organization has returned military items to more than 200 families and museums.
On Friday night, Jerry Nailor, Pfc Nailor’s grandson, received the medal from a member of the Purple Hearts Reunited group. Jerry Nailor is a former Pennsylvania state lawmaker from Mechanicsburg now living in Naples, Florida.
