Greg Rothman is a Republican seeking re-election as state representative for the 87th state House district, which covers part of Cumberland County.
abc27 News is making free airtime available to candidates. The following is the full text of Rothman’s statement:
“My name is Greg Rothman and for the last year I have been honored to serve as your state representative. I am not a politician. I am a small businessman, a Marine, husband and father. I grew up and have lived in the area I serve all my life. I share your values because I learned them from you.
After a year in Harrisburg, one thing is clear to me: the government spends too much of your money. The growth in government spending is unsustainable. We need to look at government budgets like families and businesses do. And it starts with reforming the pension system. The pension crisis is the reason your school taxes are going up and the number one cost driver in government spending increases.
I believe that we need to keep our pension promises to retirees and current employees can stay in their system, but every NEW employee – including elected officials should go in a defined contribution/401K style system like the federal government and every business in Cumberland County has.
I am running for re-election because there is a need for some fiscal responsibility in the State Capitol. Let me keep working for you. Thank you for your vote.”
