When Kia redesigned the popular Sorento last model year, it moved from midsize to full-size family hauler. For 2017, the transition to big premium machine is complete with more available features.
Our review vehicle is the loaded SX Limited model with all-wheel-drive. Base Sorento’s are front-wheel-drive.
Kia interiors just keep getting better. A comfortable driving position is easy to find with so many ways to adjust. Oversized nappa leather-covered seats are excellent.
The automatic is only a six-speed, and that hurts mileage. Available electronic driving aids now include auto braking along with lane departure and smart cruise control. Touch screen navigation and telematics are very good and surround-view cameras help with parking.
Even three adults will have plenty of room to stretch out in row two. Cargo space in the Sorento is huge with a low floor for easy loading. Underfloor storage is bigger than most. Row three seats are an option. Deploying them is easy, but row three is better suited for kids because you have to be limber to crawl back there.
Our review Sorento has a 3.3 liter V6 with 290 horsepower for good performance. Two different four cylinders are available. On the road, the Sorento is whisper quiet and drives much smaller than it is.
So, for the 2017 Kia Sorento SX Limited all-wheel drive, I say thumbs up to premium features, a quiet ride, and good value; thumbs down to poor gas mileage.
I averaged about 18 miles per gallon. The as-tested sticker is $46,990.
