Poll: McGinty leads Toomey by 1 point

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A new poll shows a much closer race for Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate seat.

The Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows Democrat Katie McGinty ahead of Republican Sen. Pat Toomey by one point, 48-47 percent. Toomey had a 49-45 percent lead in the university’s poll on Oct. 18.

A Susquehanna Polling and Research survey released Wednesday found McGinty leading Toomey by six points, 47-41 percent.

Quinnipiac’s telephone survey of 612 likely voters was conducted Oct. 27 – Nov. 1. Of those questioned, 40 percent self-identified as Democrats, 34 percent said they were Republican, and 21 percent said they were Independent.

The margin of error is plus-or-minus 4 percentage points.
