Columbia police warns of PP&L phone scam

COLUMBIA, Pa. (WHTM) – Columbia police have issued a warning about a PP&L scam targeting local businesses.

According to police, someone claiming to work for PP&L is calling businesses, demanding it pay its bill immediately or its power will be shut off.

The caller requests for payment in form of gift and cash cards. The caller also asks that the business call 888-647-4445, EXT. 202 and provide a reference number or work order number.

Police are reminding all that PP&L or other utility companies will not contact its customers via phone.
