PITTSBURGH (AP) – A father of seven who resigned as constable and acknowledged gambling away more than $1 million he stole while working as an unpaid deputy for his tax collector wife has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.

Fifty-seven-year-old Keith Kristek was sentenced to 37 months Tuesday in federal court in Pittsburgh and was also ordered to pay back all of the money.

Kristek in June pleaded guilty to mail fraud and filing a false tax return, and he acknowledged stealing the money he collected for his wife, Cynthia Kristek. She resigned as tax collector in Baden after an audit turned up the missing money last year.

Kristek said he developed a casino gambling addiction and lost money for eight years until the thefts were discovered last year.
