HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM)- UPS has just announced it is hiring hundreds of people in the Harrisburg area. The openings are a combination of seasonal and permanent jobs including part-time package handlers, drivers, and driver-helpers.
The company is hiring about 95,000 people nationwide to gear up for the busy holiday shipping season, and hiring in Harrisburg is part of that effort.
The package car driver jobs start at $18.75 per hour while package handlers and driver-helpers starts at $10.15 per hour.
Permanent UPS jobs – including part-time positions – come with benefits, including healthcare and retirement benefits. In many locations part-time, permanent package handlers in college are also eligible for UPS’s Earn and Learn program, which offers up to $25,000 in tuition assistance.
From the 2012 through 2014 holiday seasons, over 37 percent of the people UPS hired for seasonal package handler jobs wound up working for UPS on a permanent basis after the holiday were over.
