Senate eases burden on teachers married to military members

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The state Senate has unanimously passed legislation to make life easier on teachers who are in the military or married to a military member.

House Bill 2078 is headed to the desk of Gov. Tom Wolf.

The measure speeds up the process when teachers return to Pennsylvania and want to return to the classroom. It allows for an expedited review when the teacher is a member or veteran of the Armed Forces or the spouse of a military member or veteran.

Pennsylvania was one of only eight states that didn’t allow an expedited review.

The bill’s author, state Rep. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York) said her measure will also reduce fees associated with re-certification.
