Elizabethville, known as “the Star of the Valley”, is celebrating its bicentennial throughout 2017.
“To stir interest and to share unique features of the town, we have chosen to highlight one of our historical businesses that is still thriving, the Swab Wagon Company,” tells Barb Minchhoff. The company was founded by a Civil War veteran named Jonas Swab. In December of 1868, Mr. Swab wrote in his ledger “Making a sleigh” which was the beginning of what would become Swab Wagon Company. By 1899, Swab Wagon Company’s output was 5 wagons a day, and the business was incorporated in 1902.
