Harrisburg police say 16-year-old girl shot ‘barely escaped paralysis’

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Authorities are offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest in a city shooting that almost left a 16-year-old paralyzed.

Harrisburg police were called Friday night to report of shots fired near the 500 block of Schuylkill Street.

Upon arriving, officers learned that a 16-year-old girl had been taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her back.

According to a police report, the girl and three other juvenile friends were driving back from a football game when it happened. Police said for no apparent reason someone from a white vehicle began firing shots. One of the bullets reportedly went through the rear of the vehicle and struck the girl in the back.

Police said the teen girl barely escaped paralysis. She will undergo extensive medical treatments but is expected to recover.
