I-81 widening project to start next week in Dauphin County

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A widening project on Interstate 81 will begin next week in Dauphin County.

Prep work is scheduled to start Tuesday between Exit 70 (Interstate 83) and Exit 72 (Mountain Road/Linglestown) in Lower Paxton Township.

Traffic may be restricted to a single lane in one or both directions between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The speed limit through the work zone and on the northbound I-83 approach to I-81 will be reduced to 45 miles per hour until late November of next year.

This section of I-81 will be widened for an auxiliary lane in each direction. The entire project is not expected to be completed until June 2018.
