York company’s Facebook post goes viral

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – A roofing company’s Facebook post to raise awareness for breast cancer went viral in less than 24 hours.

Family owned and operated for 45 years, Miller’s Roofing, Inc. does windows, gutters, roofs. With just 10 employees, the company only had 200 Facebook likes. They wanted more.

“If we could have got an extra 50 likes, we would have been impressed with that, so this really blew any dreams we had away,” owner Joshua Miller said.

The company posted a picture of Joshua holding a pink sweatshirt on Oct. 10.

“It just said, ‘like and share this post and be entered to win a sweatshirt’,” Miller said.

The likes came pouring in, as did the requests for sweatshirts.

“When we do something like that, we might get 20 or 30 hits, so it was a big surprise,” Miller said.

Now, the post has 40,000 likes, 300,000 shares, and hundreds of orders are coming in from across the country.

“I was stunned. I was just stunned, couldn’t believe it, wasn’t sure why, but I was stunned and it’s for a great cause and we thought, ‘why not, let’s order a bunch and see how much money we can raise’,” Miller said.

All of the money raised will go toward breast cancer research.

“Every year, I’m thinking we’re going to be trying to sell a lot and educate people and raise money for breast cancer,” Miller said.

Miller’s Roofing will start selling the sweatshirts next week. If you would like to buy one you can visit their Facebook page. As for the contest, that still stands until the end of the month.
