Driver dies after vehicle strikes tree, catches fire in West Cornwall Twp.

CORNWALL, Pa. (WHTM) – One person is dead after a vehicle struck a tree and caught fire in Lebanon County.

The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday on Butler Road between Lebanon Valley Rail Trail and Old Mine Road in West Cornwall Township.

A vehicle was traveling south on Butler Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, traveled off the shoulder of the southbound lane and collided with a tree. The vehicle caught fire.

A resident who lives across the street and another driver passing by attempted to get to the driver but were unable.

The male driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Part of Butler Road was closed for several hours.
