HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Dauphin County woman has admitted in court that she organized a fundraiser for children with cancer but used the money for her own purposes.

Patricia Giovannini, 55, of Harrisburg, pleaded guilty Thursday to prohibited acts under the solicitation of charitable funds act.

She was sentenced to 36 months probation, ordered to pay nearly $3,800 in restitution, and permanently barred from participating in charitable fundraisers, according to District Attorney Ed Marsico’s office.

Giovannini in May 2014 organized a “Bikers and Bellydancers Ride Against Cancer” fundraiser for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Authorities said the event went forward, but none of the proceeds were given to the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
