Friday, faculty members at state-run universities and the State System of Higher Education will continue to negotiate to try to prevent a strike.
Faculty members could walk off the job next Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the State System of Higher Education said the goal is to keep school open in any way they can. Students will be required to go to class, even though a teacher might not be there.
Negotiations will continue through the weekend. Both sides said they are hoping to reach an agreement.
