CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – Many prominent national Republicans are not supporting GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Thirteen officials from the George W. Bush Administration signed a statement opposing his election Wednesday.
U.S. Congressman Lou Barletta (R-Cumberland, Dauphin, & Perry Counties) is taking the opposite stance.
Trump is in hot water after a 2005 video surfaced with then Access Hollywood host Billy Bush.
In the video, Trump says on a hot mic, “You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait, and when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the p***y.”
“I’m disappointed in the comments that I heard. They’re indefensible,” Barletta said.
Barletta is denouncing Trump’s comments.
“Every time I watch it, it sickens me as a father of four daughters,” Barletta said. “Then I watch the interview of a woman who was 12 years old when Hillary Clinton defended the man who raped her.”
However, Barletta says he’s still endorsing Trump.
“These are things that Bill and Hillary Clinton did, not talked about. Did. There’s a difference,” Barletta said.
Barletta says Trump’s comments happened 11 years ago, he’s apologized, and he accepts his apology.
“At the end of the day, I don’t think we’re going to put a saint in the White House with either candidate, so therefore I need to look at who I think can best lead our country, and change the direction that we’re going,” Barletta said.
Barletta says he will continue supporting Trump and campaigning for him.
