Wednesday is Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar.

It began at sunset Tuesday and it a time of atonement.  According to tradition, Jewish people fast, pray and repent for their sins.

This is the pinnacle of a holy period that began 11 days ago with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year.
