Officials respond to household fires every 24 seconds, on average. To avoid having your family in harm’s way, follow this three-step safety plan from Home Depot.
Step one: Upgrade and Test Alarms
Room by room, there are different products for fire safety. There are smoke alarms specifically for the kitchen, hallways, and bedrooms.
Step Two: Get educated on extinguishers
According to a study, fire extinguishers effectively put out 80% of fires, so having one in the home on every level is important.
Step Three: Prepare an escape plan
It is important that everyone in the house knows an escape route and practices it regularly. Officials say to pick a meeting place that is a safe distance in front of your home and to aim to get everyone out of the house in five minutes or less.
