HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Community members are expressing outrage in response to a racist social media post made by students at Central Dauphin High School.
The school district says it’s investigating the Instagram post which features a group of white female students holding a sign with the words, “You stupid n***er.”
Although the original post has been deleted, screenshots circulating on Facebook and Twitter have many wondering how the school will address the situation.
School officials issued the following statement Wednesday morning:
The Central Dauphin School District is aware of the offensive racist post on social media by students who attend Central Dauphin High School. First and foremost, this type of speech and behavior contradicts the principles and core beliefs of equity, humanity, and dignity that we try to teach our students. We have begun an investigation to determine the facts of the case and the appropriate disciplinary response.
Wednesday afternoon, Harrisburg and Central Dauphin school districts issued a joint statement:
The posting of offensive statements to social media by some Central Dauphin High School students has caused anger and outrage throughout both of our school districts and communities. As leaders, we are both committed to restoring unity in this time of conflict and divisiveness. Harrisburg High School will celebrate its Homecoming festivities on Saturday, welcoming home many alumni and members of the community. They will play the Central Dauphin High School football team that afternoon. We ask that fans and spectators of both schools remain respectful throughout the day and join in the spirit of unity and good sportsmanship.
