ENOLA, Pa. (WHTM) – A Cumberland County man was arrested Sunday for the alleged abuse of his wife and three children.
Harry William Tavernia, of Enola, was taken into custody shortly after officers were called to his home on E. Manor Avenue.
According to a criminal complaint, witnesses told police that Tavernia regularly acted violent toward his younger children, all under the age of 12, and appeared to do it for enjoyment.
Witnesses went on to say that Tavernia would also physically abuse his wife.
Tavernia’s wife told police that her husband had been abusing alcohol in the last few days and was more aggressive toward her and the children.
One child said her dad threw a phone at her, striking her hand. Another child said Tavernia would pull off his belt and strike him almost every day.
At the time of his arrest, police located heroin in Tavernia’s possession. Another bag of heroin was found hidden under a child’s fold-out chair.
Tavernia is charged with simple assault and harassment against. He is also charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
