Breast cancer survivor walks from Philadelphia to Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A breast cancer survivor wrapped up a big trip today.

Helen Michener finished a 104-mile walk from the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia to the state Capitol in Harrisburg. She explained why she started the journey.

“Right after I was diagnosed, you go through a period of time where you feel very vulnerable and kind of wonder what’s ahead for you, so I did some other breast cancer walks and as I was approaching my 70th birthday, I decided that I wanted to have a personal challenge,” she said.

As a member of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, Michener said the walk would be a “win-win” for her personal goals and raise money and awareness of early detection of breast cancer.
